N6b bribe to pastors: PDP demands apology from Amaechi

Needam said there was no other reason for the baseless and malicious allegation than to drag the name of Christianity to the mud.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State said it is saddened by the allegation of N6 billion bribe leveled against Ministers of God by Governor Chibuike Amaechi for purposes of the 2015 general elections.
The party frowned at what it described as the distasteful, sweeping and unsubstantiated allegation against Ministers of God to vote for certain political office seekers.
This was contained in a statement on Thursday by Jerry Needam, the Special Adviser on Media to the Chairman of the party in the state, Felix Obuah.
Needam said there was no other reason for the baseless and malicious allegation than to drag the name of Christianity to the mud.
This, among other reckless utterances of Amaechi, the PDP said, clearly shows the inner thinking and direction of the All Progressives Congress, Amaechi’s political party.
According the PDP, if it was Islam the verbal attack was directed at, the aftermath would have been disastrous.
Needam added: “The PDP however wishes to warn that the calm disposition of Christianity and the gentleness of its adherents must not be taken for granted to insult the Ministers of God as though they cannot be reckoned with.”
The party wondered whether a Muslim brother and or faithful as Amaechi claims to be a Christian could under any guise profane his religion or its leaders in the manner the governor has done.
The PDP thus demanded “unreserved apology from Gov. Amaechi for the undeserved insult to Ministers of God”.
It warned the APC leadership to call Amaechi and its members to order and to stop causing crises here and there for the sake of peace and peaceful co-existence of all, irrespective of religious differences.
It would be recalled that Amaechi in the course of campaigning for the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, accused Ministers of God in the country of collecting a bribe of N6 billion to take sides with the PDP in 2015 general elections.
