The pregnant singer during her Ugandan tour, took time out to speak at Mariam High School in Kampala, Uganda. While imploring the teenage girls on unwanted teenage pregnancies, abortions and more,
Tiwa Savage talked used her life experiences as an example for the young girls. Narrating how she had wanted to be a musician but her parents insisted on her going to school first, the singer had the following to say….
On music: “From young age, i had always wanted to be a singer but my parents insisted that i went to school. My parents wanted me to be a lawyer, engineer, doctor etc. So after i got a first degree in Business Administration, i decided to do music but my parents still insisted on me going the university. I would tell them ‘but Beyonce didn’t go to the university, Rihanna didn’t, so why should i?’ and they would say, this is Africa. So i went back to get a second degree in music.”
On early sex: I have some mistakes in my life but the beautiful thing about making a mistake is that you have to dust yourself and get up. Having unprotected sex can give you sexually transmitted diseases that there is no cure for. I was a little girl like you when i made mistakes too but God changed my story and if he can do it for me, trust me, trust him he can do it for you too.
Life is about planning ahead, so if you as a young person do not plan for parenthood, you will always be dependent on other people and unable to break out of the cycle of poverty. It is not good to keep on being helpless – we have to take responsibility for our lives”, the singer said.
