Ukraine police hurt at Kiev gay pride rally

Five policemen have been injured in scuffles during a gay pride march in Ukraine's capital Kiev, officials say.

A BBC reporter says unidentified people attacked the rally alongside the Dnipro river with smoke bombs and stones.
Several people were arrested, Kiev's police say. At least one of the attackers was injured, reports say.
Ahead of the LGBT march, a number of Ukrainian politicians, including the radical Right Sector movement, had pledged to disrupt the event.
Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko had called on the organisers of the Equality March to cancel the event to "avoid confrontation" in the capital.

More than 20 people were reported to have been arrested
Hundreds of police officers were deployed to prevent clashes during Saturday's event.
But unidentified attackers later began throwing smoke bombs.
One of the policemen suffered "a serious neck injury", a Red Cross official at the scene was quoted as saying by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
Kiev police later said the officer was being treated in hospital.
Ukrainian lawmaker and journalist Serhiy Leshchenko wrote on Twitter that 25-30 "radicals" were arrested.
He also praised police for preventing "direct clashes" between gay activists and the radicals.
The rally finished shortly after the scuffles.
The Ukrainian authorities say the rights of sexual minorities are guaranteed and protected in the country.
But critics say homophobia is widespread and generally accepted in the predominantly Orthodox Christian nation.

JLo being sued for shaking her bumbum on Moroccan TV (photos)

Jennifer Lopez is being sued by an education group in Morocco for 'disturbing public order and tarnishing women's honour and respect'. Lol. What did JLo do in particular? She shook her legendary butt during a performance on stage in Morocco on May 29th and it was broadcast on public TV.

The group said JLo's costume was too skimpy and inappropriate, the dancing was too sexy, and she and her dancers were shaking their ass on TV. They said all that was too immoral to be shown on TV and now are suing JLo and the promoter of the concert. This is actually sort-of a crime in Morocco, 'disturbing public order'. If found guilty, JLo faces up 1 month to 2 years in prison. Lol. But I'm sure no Moroccan court will bother with this case

Thousands attend Pope Mass in Bosnia

Pope arrives at Bosnia stadium to celebrate Mass, 6 June 2015
The Pope celebrated Mass at a packed stadium

Pope Francis has celebrated Mass in front of tens of thousands of Catholics at a stadium in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The pontiff's visit to the capital, Sarajevo, is aimed at promoting peace and reconciliation across the country.
The Pope is also meeting members of the Muslim, Orthodox Christian and Jewish communities during his one-day trip.
Bosnia remains divided along religious and ethnic lines, 20 years after its civil war which depleted the Catholic population.
"War never again!" Pope Francis urged in his homily before 65,000 worshippers at Sarajevo's Kosevo stadium.
"War means children, women and the elderly in refugee camps; it means forced displacement, destroyed houses, streets and factories. Above all countless shattered lives," he said.
"You know this well having experienced it here," he added in reference to the 1992-95 Bosnian conflict, which left some 100,000 dead and two million displaced.

The Pontiff also warned that the world faced "a kind of third world war being fought piecemeal and, in the context of global communications, we sense an atmosphere of war".

Ethnic divisions

The war between Christian Orthodox Serbs and Muslim Bosniaks in the early 90s resulted in deep ethnic divisions. There was also a Bosniak-Croat conflict within the wider war.
Bosnia-Herzegovina's Catholics, from the Bosnian Croatian community, are estimated to number 10-15% of the population.
Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin said a central aspect of the visit would be boosting the morale of Catholics, many of whom left the country after the conflict.
"In December the 20th anniversary of the war will be remembered but the traces and the wounds of war are still there," he told AFP news agency.
The Pope was welcomed in Sarajevo by children wearing traditional costume representing Bosnia-Herzegovina's three main faiths.
He also spoke to the three-member presidency and called on the country to reject division and continue working for peace to create "a melody of sublime nobility and beauty, instead of the fanatical cries of hatred".
Speaking to reporters on his flight to Sarajevo, he described Sarajevo as the "Jerusalem of the West".
"It is a city of very different ethnic and religious cultures. It is even a city that has suffered much during its history. Now it is on a beautiful path of peace. I am making this trip to talk about this, as a sign of peace and a prayer for peace."
At least 5,000 police are on duty and authorities have published a helpline number if members of the public spot any suspicious activity during the visit.
On Friday local media reported jihadists claiming to be from Islamic State had issued a video, calling for action in the Balkans. However, it is not thought to be linked to the papal visit.
It is 18 years since Pope John Paul II travelled to Sarajevo during a severe snowstorm in 1997. A monument was erected in his honour in 2014.

Mali advance at U-20 World Cup as Senegal face anxious wait

Mali's footballers at U-20 World Cup

Mali battled to a draw against Uruguay on Saturday to ensure both teams went through to the final 16 of the Fifa Under 20 World Cup in New Zealand.
Mali and Uruguay drew 1-1 to finish joint second in Group D with identical points and goal tallies.
After a drawing of lots to separate the two, Uruguay were awarded second place with Mali going through as one of the best third-placed teams
Senegal kept their hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Qatar in Group C.
With so much at stake, the match between Mali and Uruguay was always going to be tight, and Uruguay scored first through a delicate first half goal from Franco Acosta who, with his back to the net, deflected the ball past the goalkeeper.
Mali levelled just before the break with an Adama Traore free-kick that found the bottom corner of the net and set up an uneventful second half with both sides playing not to lose rather than to win.
All four sides in Group D had started the final pool round locked on three points with Serbia coming through with a 2-0 win over Mexico to earn top spot and send the Central Americans home.
Colombia, who lost 3-1 to Group C leaders Portugal, sneaked into the last 16 on goal difference ahead of Senegal who have a nerve-wracking wait to see if they too will be among the best third-placed teams.
Senegal came from a goal down after a lethargic first half to beat Qatar 2-1 and at least give themselves hope of advancing.
Qatar's Akram Afif converted a penalty in the 17th minute after Almoez Ali was brought down. Stand-in Senegal captain Alassane Sylla equalised in the 76th minute and Moussa Kone, after threatening on several occasions, scored the winner five minutes later.
Senegal needed another goal to have a chance of ousting Colombia from second place and almost scored but Mamadou Ndiaye's long-range shot went just wide of the post.
"It was a very difficult match,'' Senegal coach Joseph Koto told reporters.
"Both teams wanted to win and a draw was no good for either side.
"Before the game we knew that even by taking three points it'd very difficult to qualify, so we handled the situation we were in very well.
"The penalty gave us a big shock and we tried to level the game too quickly, which is not the way we should have gone about it."
Senegal's win over Qatar meant they finished third with a -2 goal difference and an anxious wait until the end of pool play on Sunday to see if they will make the Round of 16.
Senegal's poor goal difference confirmed hosts New Zealand will make the knockout phase from Group A as one of the best third-placed sides.

Saudi Arabia 'shoots down' Scud missile -Yemen crisis

Saudi Arabia has shot down a Scud missile fired from across the border by Yemen's Houthi rebels and its allies, the state Saudi Press Agency says.
It was intercepted by a Patriot missile battery near the south-western city of Khamis Mushait in the morning.
On Friday, four Saudi soldiers and many Yemeni rebels died in fighting on the border, the Saudi-led coalition says.
It says forces loyal to Yemen's former president, backed by the Houthis, attacked several Saudi positions.
In a separate development, the Houthis have agreed to attend peace talks in Geneva.
The UN-brokered meeting on 14 June in Switzerland is aimed at ending weeks of war that has claimed more than 2,000 lives.

"We accepted the invitation of the United Nations to go to the negotiating table in Geneva without preconditions," Daifallah al-Shami, a senior member of the rebels' political wing told AFP.

Yemen's government, which is operating from Riyadh, also said it would attend.
Ground attack
A Saudi-led coalition has been bombing rebel positions in Yemen for 10 weeks, in support of the country's exiled president Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.

The Houthis overran the capital Sanaa last September and have gone on to seize most of the country.
map
Although there have been previous border skirmishes and deadly rebel fire against Saudi Arabia, Friday's battle is only the second major ground attack reported against Saudi territory.

The rebels "aimed to penetrate our borders", and were eventually repelled, the Saudi statement added.
The humanitarian crisis in Yemen has been described as "catastrophic" by the UN with 20 million civilians - 80% of the population - in need of aid.

At least 21 people have died during violence since Thursday in the Aden area, while there were intense coalition air raids against Daleh and Shabwa provinces.

The group stated:
'He may have not promoted “fraternity between nations” but he surely promotes fraternal peace among Nigerians by conceding power.'

Nigeria can be said to have shown great leadership in Africa and made Africans in general and Nigerians in particular to comprehend that transfer of power does not need to be violent but rather peaceful as heralded by the outgoing president of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan."

31 year old man rapes and impregnates 11 year old Child

31-year-old New York man Jeffry Rosales, has admitted he had sex with an 11-year-old girl and got her pregnant and pleaded guilty to first-degree rape Wednesday as part of a plea deal.

A judge sentenced Rosales to 17 years in prison as part of a plea agreement.
One Tuesday Rosales faced up to two life sentences. He was charged with predatory sexual assault, which carries a maximum weight of 25 years to life in prison and also faced another 25-to-life sentence for second-degree murder in the June 2013 fatal shooting of Keenan Russell.

However, prosecutors dropped the murder charge against Russell on Tuesday after authorities arrested someone else who took responsibility for the crime.
Defense attorney Robert Macedonio says his client is satisfied with the plea in the rape case.

Rosales, who also faces a four-year sentence for a robbery charge, initially refused the plea deal on Tuesday but later changed his mind as the evidence against him was overwhelming and included DNA hence pleaded guilty just hours after jury selection began.

Authorities say he acknowledged fathering the child in several recorded jail phone calls between him and his family members and even the girl
The relationship between him and the 11 year old was not immediately known and her information has been kept from the public due to being a minor.

Teacher tells kids to take selfies with parents’ sex toys for extra credit

California moms Kimberly Cobene and Evangeline Garcia as of late found their secondary school girls had been given an exceptionally flawed additional credit task, titled: Find your folks' sex toys, or condoms, and bring a selfie with them.

When the irritated moms found out about the solicitation, they reached school managers at Encinal High School in Alameda, just to be informed that the instructor being referred to (his character hasn't been uncovered to the press) no doubt told his understudies the task was "a joke."

Cobene didn't see it has a snickering matter, on the other hand. She'd heard that one understudy took the task at face esteem:

"From what I comprehend, an understudy really did it, and he utilized that as a sample of what it ought to look like for alternate understudies."

Garcia included:

"On the off chance that the children took it as a joke, then why did one child take it genuine and really did the additional credit work, and was indicated as a sample in class?'

'We don't feel good with our youngsters in his vicinity."

An examination of the occurrence is as far as anyone knows in progress, yet Encinal High School authorities are mum on any immediate activity dispensed against the instructor being referred to.

Stricken Chinese cruise ship lifted from Yangtze River; 331 bodies recovered

The Eastern Star is upright once again, looking almost normal with its bottom resting on the water and its deck and cabins clear above it.

The ship's positioning Friday was a step forward in the dayslong nightmare playing out on a section of the Yangtze River that flows through Hubei province. It means answers should be easier to come by as to why the Eastern Star capsized Monday night and what can be done to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

It also means closure could be coming soon to hundreds of families.
By 8 a.m. Saturday (2 p.m. West African time Friday), 331 bodies had been recovered, according to Chinese state media. There are 111 people still unaccounted for.
Of the 456 people on board, 14 survived. But rescuers have had no luck since Tuesday, when a 21-year-old sailor and 65-year-old woman were plucked from the water.
Authorities say the chances of more miracles have dwindled with each passing day. And the salvage process has begun.
That process involved huge floating cranes that set up alongside the overturned river cruise ship, dropped cables and hooks into the water, rolled the ship upright and raised it to the surface. About 50 divers took part overnight Thursday by tying slings around the 2,200-ton vessel.
State-run news agency tweeted pictures of the Eastern Star after this happened Friday. Parts of its top level looked smashed, but the other levels appeared largely intact. By draining the ship, the idea is that it could again float on its own.
